Musician Rhiannon Giddens Visits Southern Legacies: The Descendants Projects Class

Visionary musician Rhiannon Giddens joined our own Dr. Blair Kelley and Dr. Glenn Hinson for a conversation with students in the “Southern Legacies: The Descendants Project” (FOLK/ANTH 370) class. Giddens, who was on campus as part of her Carolina Performing Arts Southern Futures residency, has been doing historical research in Wilson Library’s archival collections. She came together with Dr. Kelley, Dr. Hinson, and the students to discuss the process of transforming archivally retrieved fragments into tellable stories, stories that, in turn, would help restore the humanity of persons whose lives have been otherwise erased.
