Doctoral student Trista Reis Porter will present “‘How One Idea Leads to the Next’: Notions of Tradition, Art, and Globalism in the Work of Chris Luther and the Seagrove Pottery Community” at the 2015 Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) this weekend in Pittsburgh, PA. Her talk is part of a panel titled “New Notions of Community for Folk and Self-Taught Art,” which will take place on Friday, October 23rd from 1:15-3:00pm at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh. Other panelists will be discussing artist immigrants and early American folk art, as well as self-taught artists Fred Smith and Howard Finster.
