Your gift to the Department of American Studies enables our faculty, staff, and students to maintain the consistent standard of excellence that animates our teaching, research, and public engagement. Our department maintains several different funds so donors can specify what fund they want their gift to go to. If you have questions about these different funds, contact the interim Department Chair, Patricia Sawin.

The Department of American Studies faculty has identified five areas of need. The designation numbers in parentheses help your donation go to the right place:

The American Indian Studies Fund (100110)

The fund will support the education and research objectives of faculty members working in American Indian Studies.

The Henry Owl Scholarship Fund for Undergraduate Students (104347)

The fund provides need-based funds to one or more undergraduate majors in the American Studies department, with a preference to students in American Indian & Indigenous Studies.

The Joy S. Kasson Excellence Fund in American Studies (105428)

After consultation with the Dean, the Chair of the Department of American Studies will use the fund as discretionary funding for the Chair to meet the department’s needs.

The Daniel Patterson Folklore Fund (107463)

Funds from the allocation will be used to support graduate students in folklore carrying out ethnographic fieldwork.

The Southern Studies Fund (100456)

The fund will be used by the Chair of the Department of American Studies, after consultation with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, to provide support for further development of Southern Studies (the study of the American South) in the college and the university.

The American Gift Fund (101021)

The fund will be used to provide for the educational and research objectives of the Department.
