Ph.D. Requirements

The Department of American Studies requires Ph.D. students to engage in advanced coursework in the field of American Studies and related disciplines. In addition to coursework, students must demonstrate competency in at least one foreign language, compile a professional portfolio, present and defend a dissertation prospectus, and obtain satisfactory results on both major and sub-field comprehensive examinations.
